OGEYSIIS"JOIN US IN HARGEISA THIS SUMMER FOR THE CONFERENCE OF THE DECADE July-10-July 17,2010"University of Hargeisa.
Theme of the Conference:“Whence We Came, To Where Should We Go?”
Organized by: The University of Hargeisa..
..Why Hold the Conference?
During the past two decades, the people of Somaliland have demonstrated remarkable determination to build from the ruins of war, restore peace, and establish their own government.
Today they face both new and old challenges. They are at a cross-road: Either the successes they achieved will be continued, or all will be lost.
These are not inconsequential prospects. They are about progress and survival, or deterioration and death.
At this cross-road, the people of Somaliland cannot leave their future to chance. The best of minds and will must be brought together to examine what the people of Somaliland have come through and the future they must forge.
This is, in short, is the reason for holding the conference. The belief that I will sit on the fence, doing little for the common good, cannot save Somaliland. It is long-overdue to harness the best of our minds and collective will. Deliberate thought should guide action.
The theme of the conference is broad enough to accommodate different ideas and disciplines. Historians, political scientists, business people, scientists, technology specialists, and everyone else are welcome. Conference proceedings will be published.
How is the Conference Organized?
The conference is organized in three phases. The first phase (July 10-12) will presents papers on history, current affairs, future prospects, and solution to problems. The second phase (July 13-15) will involve historic site visits (like Laas Geel) and study of communities. The third phase (July 16-17) will focus on summation and recommendations.
Evenings will present films, poetry, cultural events, and book fair.
Taken together, the conference period has something for everyone, according to interest and taste. It offers an opportunity to bring the family and immerse the children into the culture. It is also a time to reflect, recommit to the common good, and see old friends.
